About World Aquatics

Established in 1908, the International Swimming Federation (FINA, Fédération Internationale de Natation) is an international management organisation for swimming events. FINA's official swimming events are swimming, water polo, diving, artistic swimming (AS), open water swimming (OWS), and high diving. High diving was introduced as an official discipline at the 2013 World Championships. A total of 209 countries across five continents are members of FINA, and its headquarters are located in Lausanne, Switzerland.

FINA has hosted the World Championships (currently for swimming, water polo, diving, artistic swimming (AS), open water swimming (OWS), and high diving) since 1973. The FINA World Championships has been held 16 times to date, and the 18th World Championships Gwangju (Korea) 2019 will take place in July 2019.
